I'm Kristin.  I am a wife, designer, Christian and for now a SAHM.  My husband and I are parents to three kids- Dylan Archer, Kyler Jude and Noelle Rose. Despite the name, this isn’t a mommy blog and you won’t find sponsored content here. My target audience is actually my children when they grow up if they wish to reflect on their childhood so everything I share has them at the forefront of my mind and secondly those who wish to follow along my journey. I created this space to document my family's adventures and lessons I've learned along the way.  The Mom Jungle is a modern interpretation of both the family newsletter and scrapbook.

I call this The Mom Jungle because motherhood is fun and messy, filled with laughter and sometimes heartache… it truly is a jungle out there!

Saying "Yes"

Saying "Yes"

On my parenting journey, I have become enlightened to the power of saying “yes.” I know we have been drilled on the importance of saying “no.” I am a firm believer in setting boundaries, maintaining consistency and enforcing reasonable and measured consequences for disobedience. However; when possible, I lean towards giving my blessing as my knee-jerk reaction can be dismissive when I don’t want to deal with the hassle and mess of it all.

Now more than ever, I have had to say so many heartbreaking “no’s” to what is usually typical for us- playdates, school, church, family gatherings, day trips…etc. This is precisely why I am intentionally giving the go-ahead when I can which means- more Happy Meals, dessert, snacks, bedtime stories, games, bike rides…etc. Anything that can put a smile on my child’s face and avoid further disappointment deserves a pause and careful consideration.

Yesterday, we had a “beach day” indoors. All three woke up out of sorts, so to switch gears I planned a fun filled day. They wore their bathing suits, ate watermelon, had a “pool party” in the tub and at the request of my son, I agreed they could watch “Lilo and Stitch” and eat chips on the couch. This afternoon, the kids wanted to build a race car out of everyday items so currently my hallway is cluttered, but the smiles and seeing their imagination run wild is beyond worth it.

My children are accustomed to hearing the word “no,” but I hope they will grow up remembering I said “yes” more. The way their eyes twinkle and light up is magical to me.

I want to add that saying “yes,” doesn’t just apply kids, but to all of us. We are living in trying times, so enjoying simple pleasures are a healing balm to the soul. Treat yo’ self! You’re worth it!
